During Covid, Amarilis saw an opportunity to return to her family’s homeland in San Lorenzo, but soon had to figure out her privilege will come into play in not only how she identifies herself, but also others.
“And it took a bit for me to understand.
And once I did understand it, I was like, Damn, it’s a lot that I have to check myself on coming from the States and
then seeing the struggle that is here on the island and seeing people that want to leave and can’t. And then here I come. So it’s a lot with that that I still have to learn. ”
